Located in Arlington, Washington, Avitas Agriculture is a successful medium-sized Tier II grow operation. Their facility houses around 400 plants and an extraction center, as well as an attached house that doubles as an office. The extraction center is where Avitas extracts CO2 oil from their plants. Rik Hoeflinger, a sales representative for the farm, proudly described the yields of the extraction center, “All of our oils are strain-specific, with no added glycol or flavor, and contain super high potency levels of THC.” He also added that Avitas is one of the largest producers of CO2 oil in Washington state.
As a sales rep, Rik’s responsibility is maintaining Avitas’ current relationships with vendors that stock their shelves with the farm’s product, as well as scouting for new vendors. He broke into the cannabis industry as a marketing director for Greenside Recreational before beginning his work for the farm. Despite his lateral career shift, he is more than satisfied with his current position. “It only takes one bad batch to turn off your customer, and Avitas has a commitment to consistency. That’s why we have a very strict quality control program, we want everything to be just right,” he reported, taking pride in the quality of the product he sells.
This commitment stems from the vision of owner Adam and chief grower Jason Smith, and thrives through the support of their dedicated staff. They regard themselves as a tight-knit group, which can be attributed to the organization’s leadership. Adam often sets up volunteer activities in local parks and other public areas, giving the staff a platform to give back. This foundation of service and community engagement compliments their work ethic and reinforces their perspective on why they work so hard: to help those in need.
The hard work does not go unrewarded, as there are often company-sponsored kickbacks and barbecues at the office for the staff. In these moments the team at Avitas bonds and reflects. The results of their hard work can be summarized by this remark from Rik, “You know, we’re out here with about ten other farms, and one thing I’ve heard is that Arlington is becoming the Napa Valley of weed.”
