DOPE Magazine’s 2018 PRIDE Playlist

Deep Cuts, Surprises and LGBTQIA Anthems

Each June, Americans nationwide celebrate PRIDE month. The emphasis there is “celebrate”. There is no jubilation without music. Whether you’re getting ready to march in a pride parade, or hosting a party in your home, you need a soundtrack. Of course, DOPE magazine is here to help. Scroll down for 25 tracks of out and proud pop, hip hop, rock, disco and funk.

In selecting this playlist I tried to shy away from already-accepted LGBTQIA anthems in favor of newer music, or selections that seemed unexpected. That means no “I’m Coming Out”, no “Killer Queen” and no “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. I didn’t even pick “Vogue” or “Born this Way” (wait… aren’t they the same song?). There’s enough PRIDE playlists out there directing clicks toward established and globally popular artists already.

OK, maybe there’s a few classics in there. But for the most part expect curveballs like Autre Ne Veut’s bi-pride anthem, Judas Priest’s finest cruising groove and Big Freedia’s infectious New Orleans bounce. Even the historically important cuts (Hi, Lily Allen) are relatively recent. It’s eclectic. It’s sexy. It’s political. It’s human. It’s DOPE’s 2018 Pride Playlist 2018.
