In Oakland, the cradle of medical marijuana in northern California, Magnolia Wellness Collective serves bay area patients. Located in the Jack London neighborhood behind Nellie’s Soulfood, they have been a community staple since 2013. They have space for parking and wheelchair access. Inside, the spacious waiting area has been recently remodeled in Steampunk style, with wood and brass throughout. There is plenty of seating, a cash machine available for patients’ convenience, and tablets for electronic check-in. Among the additional items available for purchase are blown glass, papers, shirts, and hats to demonstrate Magnolia Oakland pride.
While Magnolia Wellness’s staff aims to provide personal service for all patients, those who are new to cannabis are personally consulted by management. Last year, longtime advocates and community heroes joined the team, including Ed Rosenthal and Debby Goldsberry.
Magnolia Oakland offers several wellness services, including massage therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic care, haircuts, a cultivation class, and a cooking class—all at no additional cost to patients. Through their Compassion Day program they offer a free gram on Mondays to patients with HIV/AIDS and Chrohn’s disease and a free gram on Thursdays to patients with cancer. They solicit donations for food pantries, the Operation Dignity clothing drive, Parents-4-Pot, and many others.

Magnolia has over 20 strains available with excellent outdoor varieties. Some strains on hand are Titan OG, Slymer, and Blueberry Jack. They carry 40 concentrates in waxes, shatters, and oils and have over 10 strains of clones in rockwool cubes from Midnight Farms and others available all year. They have 14 edibles brands, including Gummi Cares, Pure Cure, Day Dreamers, and Kiva. I went home with a smooth and delicious hazelnut Défoncé Chocolatier bar (180mg of THC and 66 grams of cacao per bar, $24).
