99 High Tide Dispensary
If you were to fantasize about the ultimate Southern California beachside dispensary, what would you come up with?
Across the street from the ocean, waves lapping at the shore? Maybe next door to a legendary Malibu surf shop? Would it be a place born out of and constructed to be full of higher-consciousness and healing vibes? Might it be run by a nurturing and sweet actress-turned-activist and her local surf rat-turned-cannabis/botanist expert? Just for good measure, how about a drop-dead gorgeous staff, including a circa-1994, surfer-version of Brad Pitt running the place? What about Friday DJ sets, complimentary massages and a general energy that pulls you right in, or 90 strains of meticulously crafted herbal medicine, edibles, concentrates, CBDs, t-shirts, dream catchers, local art, probiotics and super foods, and a gentle ocean breeze mixing in with the whiffs of indica and sativa you get from the parking lot?
Well, next time you’re on PCH in Malibu, head to 99 High Tide, right next door to Zuma Jays’ Surf Shop. Stop in, tick off all your fantasy boxes (well, maybe not ALL of them), and let your wildest dreams come true.
Yvonne DeLaRosa-Green, aka “99” (from her infamous Burning Man life as “DJ99”) and her husband, Sam Boyer, opened the original 99 in Venice in 2008, and reopened it on 4/20 of 2015 at 4:20p.m., while Tommy Chong and the Mayor of Malibu gave their blessings.
“It’s kind of a ‘be-in,’” said Green. “Ocean, surf, healing, love, higher consciousness,” it’s a lifestyle brand, with the motto, “Heal, Expand, Awaken,” and they mean it when it comes to expanding consciousness.
They pride themselves on their two proprietary strains, Coconut Kush and Shiva Sativa. They are grown by Boyer, after having been bequeathed the genetics and a lifetime of expertise by his growing guru, Rick Shiva Shiraz, who recently passed. This place, which also has a healthy philanthropic arm aiming to heal the oceans, and autism, among others, really is a fantasy come to life.
