THE Wi-Fi PASSWORD TO THE UNIVERSE'S HEALING ENERGY: Reiki, Cannabis, and Sex

Full disclosure: this is very much on the metaphysical/woo side of the spectrum. If you think energetic healing is complete hogwash, you may want to skip this one.

In December, I received a Reiki Level 1 attunement from my dear friend Katie Weatherup, a Reiki master and shamanic healer. For those unfamiliar, here’s some background from Reiki.org:

“Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words—Rei, which means ‘God’s wisdom or the Higher Power,’ and Ki, which means ‘life force energy.’ So Reiki is actually spiritually-guided life force energy.”

“It’s like getting the Wi-Fi password to the universe’s healing energy…”

Reiki promotes healing on both a physical and energetic level. It’s called attunement rather than certification or training because Reiki is unlocked within you by the person (a Reiki master) doing the attunement. My friend Katie explained: “It’s like getting the Wi-Fi password to the universe’s healing energy.” Practitioners learn hand positions centered around energy points in the body, much like acupuncture. Level 2 attunement involves learning symbols that are drawn on the hands before healing and allows the practitioner to do distance healing work, but otherwise there is minimal training required. The attunement process is more like a ritual or initiation.

I’ve found that cannabis deeply impacts my perception of energy flow. When I use cannabis, I find that I’m more present in my body and can feel energy moving within and through me, as well as energy that flows through the person with whom I’m working. It’s easier to discern where energy feels stuck in the body, which allows me to direct the Reiki energy to the places it will do the most healing. That’s not to say that one needs cannabis to do Reiki. I suspect most practitioners don’t use it. However, I’ve done it over a dozen times in the two months since my attunement, and I find that having a mild to moderate buzz allows me to feel the energy on a deeper level. I plan to continue experimenting to figure out if my clients notice a difference between me having used cannabis or not, and I’m also curious to see if their experience changes based on whether or not they have used cannabis.

To bring this back to a sexual context, let me share something that happened in January which totally blew my mind. B came over for a date and it was the first time we’d gotten to play one-on-one since I was attuned in Reiki. We both smoked—Hepburns’ petite pre-rolls if I remember correctly—and began our afternoon delight. He was on top of me and I had my hands on his back, running Reiki energy through his body. I imagined all of the good energy in the universe from the stars and planets and galaxies flowing through my hands, into his body, and from his body into mine, filling me up. It was super intense—my body was incredibly responsive, and I felt extra powerful full-body twitches (in Tantra they’re sometimes called kriyas). Afterward—keep in mind, he knew nothing about this visualization because I didn’t describe it out loud—he said he had a really cool, but unexpected experience. I asked him to elaborate, and he told me he felt like there was a constellation of star energy around his genitals—that it felt like his body was projecting stars all over my body, like you’d see in a planetarium. My mouth dropped open, and I told him about my visualization. We were both unable to come up with an explanation other than the fact that we were both legitimately feeling the same thing. We’ve had that unspoken communication/energy perception experience two more times since then, both times with Reiki and cannabis.

Are you a Reiki practitioner? Have you found that cannabis changes the way you perceive energy? Tell me everything!
