LOS ANGELES, California — May 24, 2017 — Southern California music and art festival Chalice will return for its fourth year on July 7-9, 2017 with A-list music groups, world-renowned street artists and celebrated glass blowers.
There’s a reason music festival fans are calling Chalice “the next Coachella.”
Even a quick peek at the festival’s history shows how swiftly the annual event has grown into a cultural summertime powerhouse – and the 2017 music lineup only drives that point home.
“The fourth annual Chalice will feature headliners Ice Cube, Thievery Corporation, Sound Tribe Sector 9 -– alongside Cypress Hill, Big Boi (of Outkast), Capleton, Pouya, The Floozies, Juelz Santana & Cam’Ron formerly known as Dipset, Jadakiss – Styles P – Sheek Louch (The Lox) , Berner, Warren G, King Lil G, Manic Focus, Pressure, Marlon Asher, Ghostemane, Ras Shiloh, Izac King, Buddy and Kong.”
While the entirety of Chalice’s 2017 music-and-art lineup will be announce, event founder Doug Dracup is expecting more than 40,000 attendees at this summer’s massive party – which will take over the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds in Victorville, CA, on July 7-9, 2017.
Past Chalice headliners – from hip-hop historians Wu-Tang Clan to rap sensation Action Bronson – can speak to the event’s singular artistic vision. World-renowned graffiti artists CBS Crew and Kenney Scharf have represented at previous festivals, oftentimes performing their crafts live. And Chalice has also developed a reputation for bringing in America’s top glass artists – including creatives Dwreck, Mothership, JD Maplesden, Mr. Gray, Salt and Jag.
“This year we’re setting a different standard with Chalice,” Dracup said, noting last year’s attendance of 25,000 festivalgoers. “We’re adding attractions and different art installations that have never happened at this kind of festival before. We’re putting a million- or $2-million lineups out there for music – and we’re spending more than $100,000 on art installations.”
After spending years on the music festival circuit as a fan – finding his hustle at Bonnaroo and Electric Daisy Carnival – Dracup imagined a different kind of large-scale music and art festival, one that would also celebrate the artistry of glass culture. And that’s how Chalice – a music, hash, glass and art festival – first began, with 5,500 attendees in 2014.
But now Chalice has grown into a legitimate behemoth – and one of southern California’s largest and most important cultural events.
The three-day event will feature Chalice’s biggest-ever music lineup, plenty of large-scale art installations, expert glassblowing workshops and on-site vendors.
Chalice is the only festival of its kind – dubbed “the Coachella of concentrates” by the San Francisco Chronicle’s SF Gate.
